NOVARTIS' IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME DRUG ZELNORM RECEIVES NEGATIVE EU OPINION

Novartis AG said the European Medicines Agency committee is recommending against European approval of Zelnorm, its treatment for women with irritable bowel syndrome.

Novartis said it will appeal the decision. The EU Commission usually follows the committee's recommendation. The drug has been approved to date in 56 countries, including the US.
