VICAL FILES $70 MILLION SHELF REGISTRATION

Vical Incorporated announced today that it has filed a shelf registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which upon being declared effective by the SEC, would allow Vical to issue from time to time an aggregate of up to $70 million of common stock, preferred stock or a combination of these securities. The shelf registration is intended to provide flexibility in financing the company's business needs. Specific terms of any offering under the shelf registration and the securities involved would be established at the time of sale.
