GAINESVILLE OFFERS HOME DIALYSIS TREATMENT

A new type of care is now available in Gainesville that allows hemodialysis treatment to be administered at home by the patient, no longer requiring frequent visits to a dialysis center. The treatment option is the first of its kind in the north Texas area -- a press release claims -- and is one of eight in Texas. The machine allowing the new home treatment, the NxStage System One, allows patients to manage the complicated process of hemodialysis at home more often than previously allowed. The machine is about the size of a medium-sized television, and weighs about 70 pounds.
