STUDY: BOSTON SCIENTIFIC STENT EFFECTIVE WITH SMALL VESSELS

February 10, 2006

Boston Scientific's Taxus stent system is effective in treating small vessels, according to a recent industry-sponsored study.

The Taxus stent performed well versus Johnson & Johnson's Cypher stent in a large-scale study of 1,353 stents across 88 centers worldwide, a J&J sponsored study found. The study focused on how the Taxus stent handled vessels that were two and a half millimeters or less in diameter.

"The clinical outcomes in small vessels from the Sirius trial suggest some shortcomings with the Cypher Stent in small vessels." said Jeff Goodman, president of International at Boston Scientific.
