STUDY: PLAQUE EXCISION DEVICE MINIMIZES AMPUTATIONS

February 15, 2006

Researchers from the Duke Medical Research Institute and colleagues have reported that 82 percent of patients who received plaque excision avoided an amputation or received a less extensive amputation than was originally planned. Results of the study were published in the February 2006 issue of The Journal of Endovascular Therapy.

Patients in the study were treated with the SilverHawk Plaque Excision System, a device used to remove plaque caused by peripheral artery disease and restore blood flow to the legs, feet and toes.
