DEEPER PENETRATION OF DRUG-ELUTING STENTS TO DRIVE THE LATIN AMERICA MARKET FOR INTERVENTIONAL CORONARY DEVICES

February 15, 2006

As Latin American economies stabilize and health care becomes more accessible, an increasing percentage of the aging population will opt for coronary artery disease screening and subsequently receive interventional cardiology (IC) treatment. According to a new report by Millennium Research Group (MRG), the Latin American market for IC devices was valued at over $150 million in 2005 and will grow to revenues in excess of $250 million by 2010. In 2005, over 300,000 IC procedures were performed in Latin America, comprising 25% percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and 75% diagnostic angiographies.
