CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE COSTS EU BILLIONS

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) cost the European Union €169bn in 2003, a new study has found. Dealing with CVD cost every citizen in the EU €230 in healthcare costs, took up 12 per cent of all the healthcare expenditure, accounted for 268.5 million working days lost and severely hampered the daily activities of 4.4 million people.
