FUNG TAPS DEEP POCKETS OF PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES TO FUND REGIONAL BOARD REVIEW

The Hamilton Eye Institute exists today because of the entrepreneurship of its director and faculty. That attitude is now infecting the students and residents. When resident ophthalmologist Kenneth Fung last November wanted to organize a regional board review, he could have gone the traditional route, requesting funds from the university and the state. Under that scenario, he may have pulled it off a year later. Instead, the second-year resident went to a couple of pharmaceutical companies for sponsorships totaling $6,000 for the event.
