DISCOVERY OKAYS USE OF HERCEPTIN

SA's largest medical scheme, Discovery Health, announced yesterday that it would provide the breast-cancer drug herceptin to its members with early stage breast cancer, but only for a short course of treatment. Discovery has said until now that the cost of herceptin, manufactured by Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche, is too high for it to pay for treatment.
