WORLD HEART CORP.'S Q4 LOSS BALLOONS TO US$22 MILLION ON WRITEDOWN

World Heart Corp., a former Ottawa-based medical device company whose stock trades on the Toronto market, is reporting a fourth-quarter loss of $22 million US after a huge writedown. The loss includes a non-cash goodwill impairment charge of $17.2 million US, associated with the purchase of the Novacor Division of Edwards Lifesciences by World Heart in 2000.
