DR. REDDY'S LAUNCHES NEW ZINC SULPHATE FORMULATION

April 10, 2006

India-based drugmaker Dr. Reddy's has launched "Z&D," a zinc sulphate formulation indicated as an adjuvant therapy for acute and persistent diarrhea. Available in 10 mg and 20 mg dispersible tablets and in 10 mg/ml and 20 mg/ml syrup for pediatric use, the product is intended to supplement the company's oral rehydration salt (ORS) market.

In recent years, the World Health Organization and UNICEF have also stressed on the importance of zinc and ORS to combat childhood diarrhea. The need for such treatments is particularly dire in developing countries, noted the company.

The introduction of Z&D will begin in tandem with a series of company-sponsored activities across the country — patient education programs, awareness camps and social mobilization events that will help promote ORS treatments.
