AHRQ EXPANDS THERAPEUTICS EDUCATION AND RESEARCH NETWORK

April 20, 2006

The HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has announced the award of $16 million over the next five years to establish four new Centers for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERTs). The centers are meant to increase awareness of the benefits and risks of medical devices along with other therapeutic products in the interest of improving the quality of U.S. healthcare.

The four new CERTs are located at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey; the University of Iowa; Baylor College of Medicine, and Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Each center will work collaboratively with the AHRQ and the FDA to conduct research and provide education that advances the optimal use of medical devices and other products.
