PLETHICO TO SET UP DRUG MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN KENYA

April 25, 2006

Pharmaceutical manufacturer Plethico, headquartered in India, plans to construct a new, $20 million manufacturing facility in Kenya, the company reported.

The facility will cater for the East and Central African drug market, said Plethico, and is expected to open by the end of this year. The facility will manufacture a wide range of pharmaceutical products -- notably antibiotics, antitubercular drugs, antimalarials, cardiovascular drugs, antidiarrheals, analgesics, muscle relaxants and antiretrovirals.

"Identification of new therapeutic categories, products, innovation in drug delivery systems and patient compliance is the basis of our product selection," said Chirag Patel, the CEO and director of Plethico.

The new facility, he added, will have its own in-house testing laboratory, which will help to ensure that production is under strict quality control.
