GSK WILL CONTINUE PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR MEDICARE PART D ENROLLEES

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) will implement a plan that will allow people enrolled in the Medicare Part D program to reapply to GSK's patient assistance program for transitional assistance through the end of the year.

The company's announcement came just hours after GSK met with members of the Senate Finance Committee, who requested the meeting to address their concerns that some seniors would be left without prescription drug coverage.

"GlaxoSmithKline is today stepping up to provide assistance to Medicare Part D patients by reopening its patient assistance programs to patients who were enrolled in the programs previously this year," David Stout, president of pharmaceutical operations for GSK, said. "Medicare Part D-enrolled patients with limited incomes will be able to reapply for GSK's patient assistance programs which will provide transitional assistance to Medicare Part D patients through the end of the year."

GSK is continuing discussions with HHS' Office of Inspector General on the details of the company's proposal, however. "On approval of the company's proposed plan, GSK will communicate these additional changes regarding assistance for eligible Medicare Part D patients," the company said in a statement.
