MEDICULT GETS FDA APPROVAL FOR IN VITRO FERTILIZATION PRODUCT

May 24, 2006

MediCult, the Danish distribution partner of U.S.-based Halozyme, announced that the FDA has approved its SynVitro Cumulase product, used to make ova more receptive to sperm cells during in vitro fertilization.

SynVitro Cumulase is a recombinant human hyaluronidase -- an enzyme secreted by sperm that allows it to penetrate an egg. The product is used when treating male infertility, which accounts for approximately half of all infertility treatments.

SynVitro Cumulase could be used instead of cow and sheep extracts that are currently used to prepare eggs prior to sperm injection, the company said.
