FDA APPROVES ZOSTAVAX

May 26, 2006

The FDA has approved Zostavax, a vaccine aimed at protecting older people against shingles. The vaccine was approved for use in people age 60 and older to help prevent the painful skin condition.

Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox and strikes up to one million mostly older Americans annually.
