NORTHFIELD LABORATORIES BUYS MANUFACTURING FACILITY

Northfield Laboratories have agreed to purchase a building that will house its first commercial facility for producing PolyHeme, the company's human hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier.

The company will pay $6.7 million for property it previously leased in Mt. Prospect, Ill. PolyHeme is used for the treatment of urgent, large-volume blood loss in trauma and the resulting surgical settings. Northfield expects that the facility will capable of producing more than 100,000 units of PolyHeme. The transaction should be completed in June, the company said.
