FLU DRUG PLAN ON HOLD

July 6, 2006

New Jersey's plan to stockpile influenza medicine in case of a flu pandemic is on hold due to the state's budget crisis. The state Department of Health and Senior Services has reserved 907,000 courses of antiviral drug Tamiflu from a federal stockpile for the states. But New Jersey can't order and pay for the drugs without a budget in place, Dr. Fred Jacobs, the state health commissioner, said Wednesday.
