BOSTON SCIENTIFIC APPOINTS NEW PATIENT SAFETY OFFICER

Boston Scientific, a worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices, announced last week that Steven Zelenkofske has been appointed as the patient safety officer and vice president of clinical sciences for the company's Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Group.

In this role, he will lead the development and implementation of pre- and postmarket clinical strategy that supports the company's CRM technology and therapy portfolio. He will also be responsible for enhancing the internal structure, organization and processes for CRM patient safety. He joined Boston Scientific last month.

Before joining Boston Scientific, Zelenkofske was a senior director with Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where he held positions within its cardiovascular division beginning in 2002. He is a practicing electrophysiologist and serves as an associate professor of medicine at the College of Medicine at Pennsylvania State University/Hershey Medical Center and for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Zelenkofske is an active staff member at Muhlenberg Hospital Center in Bethlehem, Pa., and Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa., and has served as a physician investigator for a number of pivotal cardiovascular clinical trials. He earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and holds certifications in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, cardiology and internal medicine.
