INDIA MOVES TO ESTABLISH PRICE CONTROLS FOR DEVICES, DRUGS

January 3, 2007

A proposal in India would control the prices of certain medical devices, according to reports.

The Indian government's chemical ministry has reportedly suggested a differential pricing system for critical medical devices like stents, catheters and pacemakers.

The proposal came alongside a proposed drug policy that would bring 34 percent of all drugs marketed in the country under price control, reportedly slashing average market prices from 10 to 30 percent for low-end brands and from 30 to 60 percent for high-end brands.
