SONOBOND ULTRASONICS' BONDING TECHNOLOGY GAINING MOMENTUM, COMPANY SAYS

March 2, 2007

Sonobond Ultrasonics says its ultrasonic bonding technology is gaining momentum in medical product manufacturing.

Ultrasonic bonding technology is faster and more efficient than conventional sewing and adhesive methods, according to the firm. The technology helps achieve secure barrier protection and comfort in synthetic textile and nonwoven medical products, which is especially important as healthcare professionals move from reusable to disposable products to avoid spreading contaminants, according to the firm.

Other applications for ultrasonic bonding include attaching Velcro straps to flexible casts and other orthopedic devices, and manufacturing surgical repair products such as hernia patches.

Ultrasonic bonding reduces the fraying and unraveling of edges, providing secure barrier protection for products such as hospital mattress covers, according to the firm. Surgical masks, gowns and drapes manufactured with ultrasonic bonding have reliable, non-abrasive seams to protect medical personnel from potentially hazardous fluids, it added.
