U.S. MEDICAL ANNOUNCES DOMESTIC USE OF ITS ENDOSURGICAL OPERATING SYSTEM

March 15, 2007

U.S. Medical's recently approved EndoSurgical operating system has been used in two surgical procedures in the U.S. for the first time, the company announced.

Incisionless EndoSurgery technology is the next advancement in minimally invasive surgery, the firm said, with applications in the areas of obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.

The firm noted that in 2006 a joint committee of leading surgical and gastroenterology societies compiled a list of the technical barriers to incisionless surgery. The firm said its EndoSurgical system addresses these problems, particularly the issues of stable surgical access and wound closure within the gastrointestinal tract.
