Knee Replacement Designed for Women

March 29, 2007

The Gender Solutions Knee from Zimmer is the only knee replacement designed to accommodate the anatomical differences in a woman's knee and is now available at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the school announced.

The device is shaped to fit a woman's knee, which is usually narrower than a man's and moves differently. The Gender Knee requires a minimally invasive technique and accommodates a full range of motion, the school said. It provides women with more natural movement and a more precise fit.

Women make up almost two-thirds of the more than 400,000 people who undergo knee replacement in the U.S. each year, according to the school.
