Boston Scientific Launches Spinal Cord Stimulation System

July 2, 2007

Boston Scientific announced it launched the Precision Plus Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) System, the world’s smallest rechargeable SCS neuromodulation device for the treatment of chronic pain of the trunk, back and limbs, according to the company.

Precision Plus uses electronically generated lead scan (EGL scan) technology, the only SCS lead scanning technology, the company said.

EGL scan technology displays the relative position of implanted leads within seconds, and without using fluoroscopy or X-ray. This information can be used to increase programming accuracy, Boston Scientific said.

In addition, the Precision Plus remote control and charger are cordless, offering the “industry’s longest wireless range,” the company said. The charger is approximately 75 percent smaller and 85 percent lighter than competing chargers and features continuous temperature monitoring, it added.
