House and Senate Subcommittees Pass FDA Fiscal 2008 Budget Bill

July 24, 2007

The House Appropriations Committee last week passed a bill to increase the FDA’s budget in 2008, earmarking $240.1 million in funding for CDRH. The Senate Appropriations Committee also passed an FDA funding bill, providing more money for the agency than the House version but only giving CDRH approximately $182 million.

The Senate version of the bill would provide $1.76 billion for the FDA in fiscal 2008 — an increase of more than $185 million over fiscal 2007 and nearly $120 million more than the president’s request, Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) said.

The House bill funds the FDA at $1.69 billion, increasing the FDA budget by $128.5 million from its fiscal 2007 budget, $62 million more than the president’s request, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said.
