J&J Jazzing Up Diabetes Management

August 16, 2007

LifeScan, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson (J&J) company, announced the launch of “What’s Your Color?” — an online sweepstakes giving away OneTouch UltraMini Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems in four different colors: limelight, pink glow, jet black and silver moon.

LifeScan said it introduced the new color selections for the meter to help glucose testing feel less clinical and more personal and hopes to bring patients’ “style and individuality” to their testing.

“Many of my patients feel self-conscious about testing in public,” Steven Edelman, founder of the nonprofit Taking Control of Your Diabetes, said. “Having a cool, colorful, small device” may improve testing regularity when patients are in public, he said.

Visitors to the sweepstakes website can also vote on potential future colors for the OneTouch UltraMini Meter, the company said. In addition, the website features short videos of people with diabetes, a diabetes specialist and a professional color consultant, all discussing how color and personal choice can make a difference in blood glucose testing.
