Pfizer Contributes $15 Million to Fight Malaria

September 5, 2007

According to the Kenyan newspaper Daily Nation, Pfizer recently donated approximately $15 million to Kenya, Senegal and Ghana in an effort to combat malaria.

The Daily Nation reported that the money given by Pfizer will be channeled through the Clinton Global Initiative to address gaps in the treatment of the disease.

Pfizer said it would partner with governments, organizations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization and local groups to develop and strengthen programs for the effective treatment of malaria.

The paper added that a portion of the funds will be used to buy medicine to deal with the malaria-causing parasite that has become resistant to many drugs.
