September 7, 2007

U.S. Pharmacopeia, a private, nonprofit standards-setting authority for all prescription and OTC medicines, dietary supplements and other healthcare products manufactured and sold in the U.S., announced that it will officially open its site in Shanghai, China Sept. 8.

John Hu of U.S. Pharmacopeia, said the organization will work closely with China’s State Food and Drug Administration, the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, the National Institute for Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products and other constituencies to ensure the quality of medicines.

The Chinese facility will provide local manufacturers with better access to publications and reference standards, as well as other related services.

The organization also operates facilities in India and Switzerland, and has plans to open a site in Brazil.
