Congressmen Slam FDA for Investigation Into Tainted Heparin
The FDA has failed to adequately follow up on specific and credible information linking Chinese heparin sources to counterfeit or contaminated heparin
in several different supply chains, according to members of Congress. While the agency inspected several Chinese heparin makers in 2008 and 2009 for regulatory
compliance, its subsequent actions on the inspections or with the Chinese government failed to determine the source of the heparin contamination, Texas
Republican Reps. Joe Barton and Michael Burgess say in a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg.
