Trial Shows Gastrointestinal Liner Aids Type 2 Diabetes Patients
May 5, 2010
GI Dynamics’ EndoBarrier gastrointestinal liner helped Type 2 diabetes patients control their weight and blood sugar, according to data from an ongoing
clinical trial. The device is implanted through an endoscopic outpatient procedure and creates a barrier between food and the wall of the small intestine,
GI Dynamics says. Sixty-one patients were implanted with the device in two prospective, single-arm studies in Brazil and Chile. The company is preparing
to market the device in Europe.
