The FDA announced that Grain Valley, Missouri-based manufacturer Divinity Products recalled and destroyed a large lot of its dietary supplement products that contained kratom, a plant that the FDA says poses serious health risks.

The company also agreed to cease nationwide marketing of the kratom-containing products, which were sold under the brand names Divinity, Botany Bay and Enhance Your Life.

 “The extensive scientific data we’ve evaluated about kratom provides conclusive evidence that compounds contained in kratom are opioids and are expected to have similar addictive effects as well as risks of abuse, overdose and, in some cases, death,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.
