HHS and the Department of Defense have signed a $2.1 billion contract with Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline under Operation Warp Speed for the development and manufacturing of their COVID-19 vaccine.
The funding will go toward late-stage development of the vaccine, including a phase 3 clinical trial. The companies will also supply 100 million doses of the vaccine to the federal government.
Sanofi, which is leading the clinical development, plans to begin a phase 1/2 trial of the vaccine candidate next month.
