Indonesia’s Food and Drug Authority has cleared Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine, CoronaVac, for emergency use, making it the first country outside of China to authorize the Chinese state-owned drugmaker’s shot.
The Indonesian authority said the inactivated vaccine was found to be 65.3 percent effective based on interim data from a late-stage trial.
Though it has now been approved outside China, skepticism surrounds CoronaVac because of a lack of trial data and widely varying efficacy rates being reported by different countries.
