Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Drug-Releasing Contact Lens Approved in Japan

March 26, 2021

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Vision has received approval in Japan for its ACUVUE Theravision with Ketotifen, a contact lens that relieves eye itch caused by allergies.

The lens, which according to J&J is the first vision correction contact lens approved by any regulator for allergic eye itch, contains ketotifen, an H1 histamine receptor antagonist for preventing itch associated with eye allergies.

The device is designed to allow patients to continue wearing contact lenses during allergy season.
