FDA Expands Clearance for Neocis Yomi Dental Robotic System
The FDA has expanded its clearance of Neocis’ Yomi robot-assisted dental implant system to include guided reduction of the alveolar bone — the ridge of bone that contains tooth sockets — in the mandible and maxilla.
Flattening the surface of a patient’s alveolar bone is often needed for implants. The system uses a computed tomography scan to digitally plan the bone reduction and placement of implants. During surgery, the robotic guide arm provides feedback to the clinician to keep the reduction within pre-planned surgical boundaries.
The Yomi system’s bone reduction feature is currently available in a limited number of sites, but the company is planning a full commercial rollout early next year.
