Olympus announced that it will acquire cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) endoscopy technology developer Odin Vision for $79 million in upfront and milestone-based payments.

Odin Vision’s advanced AI can detect and classify polyps in real-time during procedures, and provide quality metrics with a goal of increasing rates of polyp and cancer detection, the company said.

“Odin Vision is aiming to create a paradigm shift in the way artificial intelligence is integrated into the endoscopy suite,” Olympus said, to support clinical procedures such as colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
