Next week Pfizer Inc. plans to sell much of the East Bay assets from its $1.9 billion purchase of Vicuron Pharmaceuticals Inc. in an online auction and will shut down the operation in the first quarter of 2006. The drug giant is closing Vicuron's Fremont research operations because they duplicate work being done in La Jolla, said Pfizer spokesman Stephen Lederer. As it auctions off equipment on Dovebid.com, Pfizer also is deciding the fate of 100 or so employees.
