WHO Resolution Stalled by Counterfeit Definition
Disagreement over what constitutes a counterfeit medical product has the World Health Organization (WHO) rethinking its role in helping nations stem the trade in counterfeit devices and drugs. The disagreement over a draft definition of “counterfeit” and the organization’s mandate to tackle the problem arose at a WHO executive board meeting late last month. The WHO plans to review the comments received during the January meeting and submit a new report to the World Health Assembly May 18–27 in Geneva.
