States’ Reimportation Proposal Draws Fire From Drug Industry
PhRMA is lashing out at an old opponent — drug reimportation — which officials of two border states are trying to revive. Sen. Byron Dorgan
(D-N.D.) and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer are asking HHS to sign off on a pilot project that would allow their states to import lower-priced drugs from
Canada. Dorgan had introduced a bill in the Senate last year to allow reimportation. Ken Johnson, PhRMA senior vice president, says reimporting drugs is
risky and doesn’t produce savings for taxpayers.
