Consumer Groups Want FTC to Look Into Drugmakers’ Online Marketing
A coalition of consumer groups has asked the FTC to investigate unfair and deceptive online advertising practices by healthcare marketers, including drug companies. A complaint filed by the Center for Digital Democracy, U.S. PIRG, Consumer Watchdog and the World Privacy Forum accuses online health and medical marketers of presenting a “sanitized, storybook image” of digital marketing, while engaging in aggressive tactics that threaten privacy, raise issues about fair presentation of information and promote drug sales.
