The FDA granted Gel-E breakthrough designation for Life Foam, an expanding injectable hemostat used to control internal bleeding.

The foam is for use in trauma and combat situations to temporarily stop bleeding from abdominal wounds that cannot be compressed or treated with a tourniquet.

Following the foam’s application and subsequent stabilization of the patient, they can then be treated by a trauma surgeon with a reduced risk of limb loss or death.
