WHO Updates Model List of Essential Medicines
The World Health Organization has added 12 new cancer treatments — for melanoma, lung, prostate, leukemia and multiple myeloma cancers — to its model list of essential medicines recommended for public health systems around the world.
The updated list adds 28 medicines for adults and 23 for children and specifies new uses for 26 already-listed products, bringing the total to 460 products.
The expanded list includes two immunotherapies, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Opdivo (nivolumab) and Merck’s Keytruda (pembrolizumab).
