WHO to Issue New Guidance on Remdesivir

World Health Organization (WHO) officials have announced plans to release new guidance on remdesivir as a COVID-19 treatment in “three to four weeks.”
The WHO is convening an expert panel this week to review all the evidence for the drug’s effectiveness and the new guidance is expected to advise countries to review all the available data before approving the antiviral as a COVID-19 treatment.
Although the FDA has approved the drug for treatment of COVID-19 infections, a study by the world body found no clinical benefit or improvement in survival outcomes for COVID-19 patients in a review of multiple trials.
