UCSD COVID-19 Test Gains Emergency Use Authorization

January 4, 2022

The University of California San Diego (UCSD) has received Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA for its Excite COVID-19 Test.

The test is indicated for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from the SARS-CoV-2 virus in anterior nasal swab specimens.

The agency said samples may be collected by a healthcare provider from individuals of any age, or collected at home or in a community-based setting with adult assistance for children age two to 14, or self-collected by anyone age 15 and up.

Test analysis is limited to the UCSD BCG Excite Lab in San Diego, which is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988.
