German drugs and chemicals group Altana AG (ALTG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) has withdrawn its European Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA) for its key smoker's lung and asthma drug Daxas, it said in a statement on Tuesday. The news of the setback to one of the two big hopes in the Altana research pipeline sent shares in the group down 7.1 percent at 44.85 euros by 1439 GMT, making them easily the biggest loser on the DAX bluechip index.
