CHINA PLANS CAPS ON MEDICAL DEVICES
China is pressing ahead with health-care initiatives aimed at reining in surging medical costs, announcing this week a series of measures that could have significant implications for hospitals, patients, and domestic and foreign drug companies if they take hold. Among the steps is a move to stiffen caps on the amount most public hospitals can charge for prescription drugs, set at 15 percent above the purchase price for public hospitals at the county level or above. The new regulations may also include caps for medical devices, such as stents and pacemakers.
